Garden of light

A bright garden overlooking the Lecco Prealps, surrounding a newly built private residence. The garden maximizes the natural light of the architecture with clean lines and neat volumes. Subtle variations of herbaceous respond to the rhythm of the interior spaces. Regularly shaped evergreen hedges contrast with the lawn and protect the privacy of the house.

Across the slope overlooking the road below, resilient species like broom, St. John’s wort and pittosporum will gradually establish a rich, flowering Mediterranean landscape.

The trees in the garden frame the landscape of the Lecco Pre-Alps with their light foliage and ornamental bark. Three olive trees lined up on a parterre of yarrow, bluebells, and small daisies evoke the rural rhythms of the area. At the opposite side of the house, a group of red-leaved maples guards a little secret.

Tsubo-niwa

Nestled within the lightwell at the base of the maples is a fresh, vibrant green corner inspired by the Japanese tsubo-niwa. This lowered pocket garden owes its striking atmosphere precisely to the presence of the architectural limit – a wall, a neighbouring property, the reduced dimensions – which, in fact, is never hidden but rather borrowed within the composition.
